Which DAW is best for your and why ?

I want to use great daw for me. I will use DAW for making electronic music.

Thanks in advance

I’ve used Propellerhead Reason for a long time think I started useing it with 2,0 version. I love it because you can so much with it. It’s perfect for Electronic music with it’s build in drum machines, Synths and samplers. To recork audio just made it even better because now there is no need to rewire it to other daw.

I started producing when I was about 14 and am now 19, but I’ve worked with some of the bigger-time, older producers on the scene. While DJing is all about expanding into more expressive technique, production is about going more and more technical until you hear sound in hertz and waves. That’s why I don’t recommend Reason or Fruityloops. No offence to any FL or Reason users at all, I know many producers that make some amazingly creative stuff in Reason and FruityLoops, but they do seem to be the 'easy way’to me. Friends of mine tat use FL or Reason have never used anything different. They started out with them because they’re so accessible, but in the long run they don’t let you expand and don’t let you get really in-depth with your sound. FL is based on loops and created variations on loops, and is therefore counter-creative and encourages laziness. Reason is graphically pleasing but its simplicity is its overall downfall.

The big-time producers compete with Protools, Cubase and Logic, and they are constantly arguing between them. I use Cubase due to taste. That said, I would definitely be on Logic if I was a Mac user. Protools seems to be a bit bloaty for my purposes as I don’t use a lot of softsynths; I create most of my sounds in samplers and turn oneshots into synths.

Overall, FL or Reason might be an easy way in, but you shouldn’t get too used to them because one day you’ll want to up your game and do something more advanced. Between FL and Reason, I’d say the later too. It lacks VST and recording is about the worst you can get, but it’s a very nice piece of software to use.

My best advice would be to go for Cubase/Logic, learn them inside out, and then you basically know how to use them all. Give them all a go if one doesn’t suit you, but try them first.

OOPS - I missed out Live. Again, I find this counter-creative seeing as it is essentially a loop-triggering software, but I would definitely look into it. Live’s effects are second to none in my experience and M4L is amazing. Reaktor VST has the same sort of concept as M4L but pulls it off in a more user-friendly way. Even the included synths are amazing but when you get into making your own things get really fun. This acts as a good replacement in M4L in other VST-supporting DAWs.

Depends on what music, I create techno so I use alot of loops. I started out with FL but got tired of that. I’m now using Ableton and I love it. The fact that I can build my track live in session view makes it alot easier to improvise on idea’s and stuff like that. I’d figure for other kinds of music it might not be the best but for me combined with proper synth’ s it’ s all I need.

I have a feeling that you haven’t used Reason in quite some time. You can rood any signal to alsmost anything and the combinater can contein unlimeted(Almost) devices and be saved for later use. The latest 6.5 version has added Rack Extensions witch are kind of like VST.
If your only going to be making electronic music reason is a beast.
But for more traditional recordings Cubase/Logic/Pro Tools are better. I’ve used Cubase a little before, but used Nuendo before I sold my studio setup.

Thanks for your reply RavioliFaceMan. I tested demo of mixcraft, FL Studio and Ableton Live. For me Ableton is more advanced than mixcraft or FL Studio. But I’m uncertain between Cubase and Reason. Which one is better ?

Best Regards

Will reason be great start for me ?

It’s hard to say, but I don’t like Reason because I heart VSTs and Reason does not support them.

ableton

to the other guy; I really don’t understand how ableton could make people be lazy- as far as I’m aware all DAWs have a loop function?

I think the final result in this topic is FL Studio is easy, Reason’s compressor step sequencer etc. is bad and Cubase 6 is great. Am I right ?

Being good on anything isn’t exactly easy

Usually when someone starts off staying their opinion trumpeting that they’ve “worked with the best” usually that means they’re full of shit and trying to sound important.
That being said most modern daws are very capable and regardless of what you choose it’s going to take time to learn how to use it, what you like, what you want out of a daw. Keep trying demos, when you have the money give one a go - maybe after a year you may find you want something else, but the only to find that out is to do it.

I really enjoy working with Studio One v2, coming from Cubase its really seemed to simplify my workflow. Demo them all and see which works better for you.

+1

I always check out their work with high expectations and 9/10 times Im left feeling disappointed.

Pro Tools 10 is my favorite, using Maschine as a sampler/sequencer.

But, really, they all do about the same thing (make music) and they all do it very well. It’s just about what makes sense to you.

Most good producers are not hooked on a specific DAW. They could learn any system and get good results within days.

Logic seems pretty good. What do you think about Logic ?

Yes, it is good. If someone can’t make tracks releasable and played over big systems using Logic, it’s not Logic’s fault, but the pilot’s.

I think on the level of today’s professional DAWs it’s not about wether they are good or not. They all are. It’s like comparing a Mercedes vs. a BMW vs. an Audi, if you know what I mean. They are all high quality, top-of-the-range products.

There still are differences, though. E.g. regarding work-flow, ‘on-board’ instruments/effects, etc.

In the end it’s a matter of personal taste and workflow preferences. Just try the different demos and see what suits you best.

I have just started producing myself and I know it’s a bit mind boggling where to start.

I did lots and lots of research before I chose, you can download a trial versions of most of the main DAWs and see which you can understand and which seems comfortable to you. Try not to get hung up on what people are using because you find that all the top producers use completely different DAWS.
Afrojack, Avicci use Fruity Loops, Tiesto, Hardwell use Logic, Mark Sherry,Brian kearney use cubase and DJ Fresh, Skrillex use Ableton. Each of these DJs/Producers are successful in their own right, not necessarily down to which DAW they use, but down to their skill in getting the most out of that chosen DAW.

Don’t expect to become a world class producer within a couple of weeks, It takes alot of hard work and many, MANY hours finding your own style and sound. Take things 1 step at a time and enjoy the journey.

Hope that makes sense and helps
