Your thoughts on this deal

Evening all,

So I’m currently using the Kontrol S4 but am now looking to get CD decks.

I’ve found someone who is selling a pair of CDJ 900s and a DJM 600 for £1500…possibly more depending on how much it will cost to post them…

Anyway, I know the 900s are a great piece of kit and it was between these or the 2000s for me but I’m not too sure on the mixer, how good is it?

Thoughts on the overall price? I realise it probably is a no-brainer but there is no harm in double checking.

Thanks

The mixer is alright. Its a bit dated personally. Ask without the mixer and see what prices he will give. Then go 100 lower :stuck_out_tongue:

First of all have you play with it?
That’s the first thing you need to do, get your hands on the hardware and if you really like it buy it.
You have the money for it and ur mind set on it, get it.
Anyone can tell you the good and bad so u make the final choice…

No and I won’t get the chance to test it as the guy is over 300 miles away from me. I have emailed to ask about a price for just the CDJs so I might just go down that route and get a new mixer…

Yeah personally thats a bit expenisive to me. I mean I’ve seen pairs going for about 1800 USD, the mixer is not worth an extra 600 bucks. You can get a djm 800 for the price imo. Maybe prices are different across the pond.

From my research most used 900s are going for around £700, I’m hoping to pick up a good bargain once the nexus is released, might just put this guy on hold to see what happens.

Also, I might just buy from new and try and haggle my way to a good deal as buying a whole set up could work in my favour anyway…

I’m not sure if Pioneer will ship overseas, but they offer refurbed CDJ900’s for $839 (£520)

Nice idea in theory but could cost more in the long run, it’s a shame they don’t offer the same service in the UK.

Didn’t know u were looking at something that far. Question do u have a DJ store near by? Then you’ll out of luck viewing video and product reviews is your best bet. Have you join the forum for that product ask around there and use ur judgement from there.
Like someone say if it outdated and it cost that much you’re better off buying a new product who know how much longer that item will last if you buy used item…

They certainly are, we Europeans pay considerably higher prices for equipment (I always start drooling when I see the US prices).

Decks.co.uk is selling b-grade 900s for £799 at the moment, and in my experience b-grade generally just means damaged packaging or manufacturer repaired. The 600 is a pretty poor mixer by today’s standards, the later mixers such as the 700 and 800 have significantly better SQ.

Decks.co.uk is probably my nearest store, I purchased my Rokit 5s from there recently and I know they are quite partial to a deal so I think a trip is in order.

Looks as though i’m going to just whack it all on a credit card and deal with it that way…

Yeh, they’re always really helpful.

Well I brought my VMS4 as remanufactured and it hasn’t given me any issues and I save my $$$ it just my luck…

Am I the only one who can’t see the logic in this decision?

Isn’t a Kontrol S4 with Tarktor Pro 2 a far superior DJ setup then two CDJ-900’s and a DJM-600?

What is the advantage?

Jesus Loverocket, you know that strokes and folks thing? I really don’t understand why every time anyone says they want to buy CDJs, someone has to pop up and say WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU DO THAT??? Then we have the CDJ vs controller argument all over again, every frickin’ time.

If someone has an S4 and decides they want CDJs, they’ve clearly thought it through and don’t need slamming for making an ‘illogical’ decision.

ok man. you’re right. Go for it. Tell us how you like it.

You know it one subject people will say the pros and cons for just about all the brands. It ur money get what u feel comfortable with. I know must people got out their ways to get the top equipment and that’s the big mistake most people do and end up trying to sell it. You may like the 2 channels controller over 4 channels or vice versus. I own both because I started with 2 and now I own the 4 channels. Kept the 2 as my backup. I will be adding the CDJ soon and I’m still looking because the newer one are always popping up with better feature. As soon as u get the item you’re outdated the next date… So in all I’m saying don’t try to get the best when it not in ur budget…

Well I get your point but the main advantage for me is this: I played a gig on Friday night, the third time I’ve played at the bar. The previous two times, I turned up with my magma bag which was loaded with my S4, my laptop, my headphones, cables, 2 socket plug extension and in addition my magma laptop stand. But this time I turned up with just my headphones and an SD card.

Ok, it doesn’t take too long to set up and pack away the S4 but it’s enough time and in all honesty, quite a ball-ache!

Comparing it to simply turning up with an SD card, well, there is no comparison.

Also, it was the first time i’ve ever used CDJs of any kind and have to say I loved using them.

So my decision is get CDJs is nailed on, now the only other thing to decide is what mixer? I was in London yesterday and was able to view the DJM 850 and 900 but I’m not sure if I really need a 4 channel mixer for home use but I do like the effects that are on those units, are there any mixers with the same sort of effects and quality?

Unless of course I can get a decentish offer, such as this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/pioneer_djm_700_k_b_stock_2.htm

Buy a decent 2 ch mixer w/ send/return, buy EFX1000.
