I just bought my first used Mac in the hopes of using Ableton. I have Ableton 8 suite but when I try to upgrade to live 9 suite I see a 749 on the price tag and I already just dropped 900 on a used Mac.
are there any other DAWs that don’t have big price tags every time an upgrade comes along?
or would you say to stay with live 8 suite
mean while I get other peoples opinions I am going to look at videos comparing live 8 to 9 and see if its necessary for me to even bother upgrading.
@cutflow, the full version is 750, upgrade is 300 (download version). I’m not familiar with Ableton so, I don’t know what’s different between 8-9 but, 300 seems steep to me. If you can do without v9 features, maybe stick it out until v10 comes along (likely still 300 from v8). Or, just go to 9 whenever you can swing the 300. Might as well stick with what you know and love. My .02
Try Reaper - it’s just $225 and many people I know even in pro audio mixing and mastering world love it. Though me personally is 100% Ableton lover. But of course if it’s the price matter I’d give Reaper a try.
If you got the Ableton 8 Suite the upgrade to 9.7 suite is $300 on musicians friend. Also if you apply for financing you could get it for $13/month for 24 months with 0% interest.
I tried to use Ableton Live Lite but didn’t find the workflow nice. I use Reason, Pro Tools and hardware gear. I would advise you to try Reason. If you use both software, you have gear musical weaponry at your disposal .
