As I am anticipating a purchase of some CDJ’s this next week. I was going to go with the 850’s but the more and more i ponder i believe I’m gonna go the 900 route. especially with news like this.

sounds like a lot of promise for an update, hope NI can deliver with minimal bugs

Wow, if I understand right finally Pio HID integration, this will be good (and big.)

Yes Adv HID Display integration is correct. I got the chance to look at it. It looks pretty good. On top of that they also improved the “normal” integration quite a lot.

… this might even be that RekordBox takes the second seat, or backup with USB drives, as most DJs don’t mind taking their laptops with all the material to gigs. Provided you are a Traktor fan, of course.

this really interests me. is there any videos yet showing this new HID integration?

That actually makes zero sense when I really think about it. But when I really think about it, I don’t understand HID at all.

Anybody want to shed some light on why you’d pay $3200 for a giant S4 with the mixer lopped off? The entire design philosophy of CDJs is not dealing with the bloated impenetrable bullshit that is Traktor, and not having to lug around and set up a laptop. First person to say “Traktor has effects” gets a massive facepalm.

I understand what you are saying. But if you happen to be using a djm 900, its not much of an upgrade at all to switch it up and see if you can cruise through your library better or like the feel of traktor more.

I haven’t used Record Box so I’ve got nothing to compare to but for me:

  • TSP has 4 decks visible in the GUI, waveforms, FX selection/controls, Phase meter and library all in the same window
  • Sample decks and now Remix decks
  • More Cues and Loop points
  • High quality Kontrollers X1& F1
  • Internal FX
  • Ability to Sync everything up (not a great feature for some)
  • More file options
  • IMO more scope for software improvements as its a more mature software platform

i ll give a reason ..i can use my midi fighter and my cdjs will work the same as they had a cd or usb in them , they will last longer then a s4 , i have had one . ok i will admit i use that sync now and again aswell , rekord box is less stable than traktor , and i get to choose my own ext mixer

But why would you waste so much money on CDJs? Why not spend a third of the money on another pile of controllers?

Advanced HID integration is something that also benifits those who use traktor and use the house cdj2k’s at various clubs.

The point isn’t really for someone at home. Its more along the lines for a club. If a club has CDJ 2000s and a DJM 900, and you only mix on your laptop, then rest easy, all you need to do is bring your laptop. No controller needed, no unplugging anything, super easy switches between djs.

They’ve already had that ability since 2001. And it’s never involved the extrenuous step of setting up a laptop, configuring your audio, and then routing it. Why on earth rolling up with and setting up a gdmf laptop is considered an advantage over plugging in and linking a USB drive is far beyond me.

Traktor doesn’t have any feature advantages that aren’t rendered borderline moot by it’s absolute clusterfuck of a browser. Thats why I always scratch my head a bit whenever people say that Trakor is easier when compared to a Rekordbox drive.

That’s exactly what I tried to convey. Bring your Traktor/Laptop and some spare USB sticks for backup in case laptop is bad and you are in business in seconds at the club. Plus you get all the work you put into your Traktor database a part of the DJ set.

Or take Traktor with your favorite controller. Or heck, use Traktor as it is with the laptop itself. You can’t beat a big screen with info compared with two line LCD displays…

As for Traktor’s browser, it’s quite usable, just need to learn to use it. Anyway, as I said, if you bought into Traktor in the first place.

I dont own CDJ2k’s. I have evrything set up, organized, and ready to go in Traktor which is on my laptop. I’m not going to spend time setting up music in recordbox since I do not own a CDJ that uses recordbox, the time outweighs the benefit. Do you understand now? There are many others in the same boat.

If you think browsing and preparing on CDJ2k/900s is harder and more restrictive than in Traktor, you don’t seem to have very much experience with the CDJs. With a Rekordbox drive, you have actual browse and sort abilities, something Trakor desperately needs, and data tags aren’t restricted to a single line. My point is that when you add the laptop over the USBs, you actually lose comfort and flexibility. The laptop should be the backup in this equation.

If you regularly play on CDJ2ks, setting up a Rekordbox drive with your entire database takes around 3 clicks and an hour or so, and from there on gives you access to a far superior browsing system, and frees you from having to set up and configure a laptop. I’ve had people I tech for literally download Rekordbox on stage, and use it linked in for the entire show, fully analyzed. Either that, or since your bringing the laptop in anyway, just set your controller up on a pillow or something, which actually involves plugging less things in than using HID.

sync, cdj 900 screen aint as nice as looking at a nice waveform on your laptop, autogain , midi , complete with the next best thing to mixing on a 1210 , the cdj 900 ,2000 what more could you ask for

Most DJs have laptops, many use Traktor, it’s just a win-win for those customers. As I said, if you like Traktor, no need for RekordBox. This is especially true for controller DJs, S2/S4 et rest that need to do club DJs with CDJs from time to time.

PS: I’m experimenting with using Traktor and just a laptop as it is for controlled mixes for podcasts – so far this works really well! Can’t do with RekordBox.
