CDJ 850s and traktor pro

CDJ 850s and traktor pro

So I came across this super great deal on two 850s for $1000. Now my question to you guys is, should I get them and hope NI will support HID , or just opt out and jump on 900s instead , although that’s going to set me back another $1k. What do you guys think, all suggestions are appreciated.

Why get CDJs for Traktor? It’s not the only option, as I have recently learned myself.

Check out the Denon SC2000. Significantly cheaper, and holds all the same functionality if you are using TP anyways.

Well not only for traktor , but also for the USB / rekord box feature. The club I play at has 900s , so I would like to get more familiar with cdjs . And just in case I want to use traktor it would put me in a good direction at home

I did play with the denon a bit , I currently have a reloop contour, pretty much the same controls without a pitch slider

Totally OT but are you on audizine? I’m DJ SB there.

Yeah I’m also on vwvortex, been vw/audi tech since 2001.

Haha right on - small (virtual) world.

Hahah true nice to see other enthusiasts on djtt

I’m new to the Audi world. Not new to the DJ world.

I’ve been djing since 2008, so still a freshie here, this place did put in the right direction

Thats a great deal for 850’s. If it was me i’d buy them. Very capable cdj’s.

$1000 for two 850s is amazing. The new firmware for the 850s makes timecode control TIGHT, and I mean really tight. You can still use them in HID in sera to, but with Traktor you’ll only be able to use them in midi for the time being. I’ve heard rumours that after the Z2 is release that the 850 will receive HID support and that it’s in the pipeline. But nobody can confirm. I’ve been using my 850s with traktor in timecode for the past two years and they’ve been awesome. I can also get familiar with rekordbox and CDs on them as well. 99% of the time when I spin i’ll be using traktor, so I didn’t want to shell out more money for 900s. I suggest that if you’re mostly looking to use Traktor, save your money and don’t get the 900s, just get the 850s. A midi controller will provide an OK control with the jog wheels, but timecode IMO is the best, and next best is HID which is basically equivalent to timecode. Personally at the moment my computer only has two USB ports and I hate having to use a USB hub, so using the CDJS in timecode saves me from having to require 4 USB slots. I just need one slot for my Audio 4 and another for my X1. I’m going to purchase the Z2 at which point I would love to have HID because then I could just plug into the Z2 hub, but it’s really not that big of a deal if I still have to use timecode.

from NI site about the Traktor 2.6 update
HID support for Pioneer CDJ 2000nexus (SLIP button is mapped to FLUX mode)
no word about 850 suport :disappointed:

I was on the pio forum earlier saw a post somewhere , that one of the NI reps said that’s 850s are gonig go get the hid support. Its pretty much up to NI and not pioneer.

Yes that was me who got that response from Native Instruments I sent a follow up email over two weeks ago including the previous reply they had given to me. I’m still waiting for a reply. here’s the quote from my previous email sent in December 2010, which I still have.

Hello Brandon Orr,

The Pioneer CDJ-850 was just added to the list. *The next update to Traktor should
add the Pioneer CDJ-850 to the Setup Wizard of Traktor. There will be Knowledge
Base article coming soon for the Pioneer CDJ-850.

The setup should be similar to the the CDJ-900.. We do not have a CDJ-850 in the
office to test with…

The Pioneer CDJ-900, when used as a USB-controller, is a “Plug-and-Play” Device.
Thus, you simply have to plug it in to your computer, set it to “PC Mode” and
TRAKTOR’s Setup will be done automatically.

  • When plugging the Pioneer CDJ-900 to your computer, the device will ask you on
its display to which Deck in Traktor you want to assign it.

Probably just a matter of time. I know its more money… but it honestly may not be a bad idea to buy a scratch upgrade that includes a soundcard such as the Audio 4/6/8/or 10. I think you can get a copy of Traktor, Audio 6, and Scratch upgrade for right around $275-300 at Guitar Center.

I say this because not every club will have HID compatible CDJ’s. Meaning if you plan on playing out on the clubs equipment through Traktor and the club only has say a DJM-800 and CDJ 1000’s (a LOT of clubs have this set up or older) your not going to be able to just stroll in with your laptop and plug away and be good to go.

This is true. I still run into a lot of clubs that only have cdj 800MKIIs but more and more clubs are starting to get 850s surprisingly, and I’ve only ever spun at one club which had 2000s and that was the Guvernment, which is where Marcus Schultz and Armin Van Buuren spin when they come to Toronto. Never seen anything higher than a 1000MK3 or 850 at a normal nightclub. Not to mention most bars and pubs tend to have just technics. So it is a good Idea to invest in a timecode setup as well just in case.

So after all the research and you guys help I decided and got my self a cdj 900 for the start , used It in hid mode on traktor, it pretty much plug and play . So far I’m impressed

lol…so after the whole thread tells you no point in getting the 900 if you’re going to just use it with HID…you get the 900 to use it with HID. No doubt it’s an amazing piece of kit. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! All the best.

I know I know , but I just don’t want to deal with the dilemma  , got just one for now till I can afford another one . I think it was a good choice just or future purposes. I got an hour of play time with it , I like it and fit my needs / workflow , that’s what really matters, thank you all
