Brostep, your thoughts?
What are your thoughts on brostep?
Brostep, your thoughts?
What are your thoughts on brostep?
here goes,
i think bro step is taking off because to the general public apple ear buds do just fine.
so based on what darwin told us, only tracks more focused on the mid and highs will take off.
now when they listen to their fave screechy track live they get smacked with a wall of bass making it so much better, this holds their interest in general.
however, classic (real) dubstep tracks are ignored becasue all you generally will hear on ear buds is a spaced out kick and snare with some atmospheric sounds.
perfect example, play the following track on you laptop or equivalent speakers:
now play it again on a proper set up.
makes me shed a tear.
shameless plug. all D1 tracks. its a lot more fun on a proper set up:
still hear the odd quality tune come out, but not often.
it went exactly where electrohouse went in 2009. big mainstream success, but zero innovation and most the new releases and “big” artists are just garbage because mainstream audiences will eat whatever slop you feed them if it’s trendy.
I try not to think about brostep…
Those are my thoughts.
never been a fan of dubstep since I first heard it in about 2005. It is going more mainstream as a genre deffo even britney spears is in on the action
go to 2.13 very dubsteppy sort of sound the one of the kicks aint really traditional dubstep tho
So brostep is different than dubstep? I stopped into a “dubstep” night over the weekend and couldn’t believe how many times I heard people say bro. Maybe I was really at a brostep night? Either way, definitely made a difference hearing that music on a club system vs the tunes on my laptop speakers.
I’m confused about what the kids are into these days. lol
The first dubstep I actually liked was Caspa & Rusko’s Fabric Live mix. And I still think it’s awesome today even though it has some of Rusko’s songs that I think kinda started the whole “brostep” movement. Then all my friends started listening to Excision and such, and I tried to get into that but really couldn’t. Then I noticed how everyone was trying to imitate the biggest baddest dirtest nastiest robot orgy noises they could and… it’s just not my thang, really.
the track was produced by rusko.
also, rusko (im to lazy to get the link) said he started brostep, but everyone took it to far, and he has since progressed past that.
The track was released WAY before Rusko came out and “said” that…
But have you ever listened to the vocal sample from “Gone Too Far” ?
Kinda makes you think.
brostep is a sub-genre of dubstep which has created all the recent mainstream attention for dubstep.
it’s basically a hybrid of electro and dubstep.
I love all EDM. Brostep included.
Plur people… comon now dont be a hater
I am in no way trying to promote any argument, I simply wanted to hear people’s thoughts on it.
this ^
It makes me sad that people actually think apple earphones are good. You can buy something which has masses more bass and better isolation for about a tenner, and I did.
Brostep is going a bit too far imo. It started off with some good production and some thought for the music, and there still is with a select few producers. But now all I hear in the beatport top 10 is squelchy robot sex with no bottom end.
I heard it played on a funktion one system the other week, it sounded pants. But all the 16 year old guys were lovin it. Totally brockin out.
Fair play to them, its pretty much their underground music community. I dont have to like it or attend the events and its still going to do really well from sheer numbers of uneducated students. As long as they are all there, doing their thing, I can go do mine in peace.
Brostep has its place, and i think that’s rightly in the underground clubs. Its visceral, loud and in some cases even danceable. Most of the proper dubstep I hear is chillout, not really suitable for that environment.
Remixes on the other hand are where I think dubstep excels. Take a cheezy pop song and make it into bass music. I’d like to hear more of that in clubs tbh.
That Britney track wasn’t produced by Rusko, it’s Dr Luke + Max Martin.
Honestly, if it sounds good, i’ll listen and play it. I don’t care what genre it is, who made it, and who judges me by “what” I am playing.
I play what I would listen to, and I listen to good music (imo) - regardless of the genre.
my bad, upon further research he waited about a month to tell that to the world and at that point i already stopped caring

That article was written on January 11th… 5 days after the track leaked to the internet. Hardly a month ![]()
I’m totally down coldfuzion!
Also i’m getting a bit sick of topics like that. I remeber we had the same discussion some weeks ago in the skrillex fucking up his mac thread…
impossible.
all of the mac fanboys assure me that macs dont crash. ever.
i love brostep, it was a neccesary step to get to where dubstep is heading now (future-garage, post dubstep, whatever..)
there’s simply some amazing stuff being created right now from ashes of the wobble bass brostep explosion.
