Can you recommend me a 4 IN/4 OUT USB or FW soundcard

Hi,

I’m really in need of a soundcard. My monitors are directly hooked up to my laptop at the moment.
(Yes I get crackling/static occasionally)

This is what the soundcard should be able to do:

In the studio:
-Something decent to hook my monitors up to (they use RCA)
-Easy to reach knobs for output volume/gain
-Need to be able to plug in a mic
-Headphone out would be nice

DJ setup:
-1 input for recording the mix
-1 input for a send/return
-1 output for a send/return
(send/return probably with Xone 92, but that’s for the future)
-1 output to go to a mixer channel
-another output to route maschine on would be nice but not required.

I asked an ableton instructor what he would recommend and he said I was a fool if I didn’t get FireWire, but I think I’m going to go for a USB interface to keep the cost down.

I really have no idea what I should pick.

Do you mean a 2 in / 2 out, or a 4 in / 4 out? Ie, do you need 1 stereo channel or 2?

Whoops yea. I need 2 stereo channels in as well as out. So that would make it 4 in 4 out.

In that case, I’d recommend a Komplete Audio 6 (NOT a Traktor Audio 6). Technically it’s a 6-in/6-out, but meets all of your criteria perfectly

For your DJing setup, an Audio 8 DJ would be ideal as it gives plenty of inputs and outputs.

Since you’re using a Xone 92 you cannot make use of the digital outs of the Komplete Audio 6, so that leaves you with only 2 stereo outputs. The Audio 8 DJ on the other hand has 4 stereo outputs, in addition to meeting all your studio requirements.

Only problem is it’s discontinued so you’d have to buy one used.

Edit: The Saffire Pro 24 would also fit nicely; it has Firewire and a volume dial for your monitors.

MDC you just made me choke on my tea seeing you not promote anything Reloop! :tada:

Maybe because Reloop don’t make a soundcard that meets the O.P’s requirements. The ‘Play’ hasn’t got ‘Ins’ required and the iPhono is just weird.

haha karlos i know that but i still wouldnt have been suprised if he plugged something reloop haha

Really impressed with the komplete audio and the focusrite so far. The price point and features are ideal.

The focusrite is pretty cool because it has a FW port and comes with FW to thunderbolt cable. And I like the complete audio because of it’s sturdy case.

What OS are you using?

If it’s Windows, be careful with the Focusrite - I’ve had nothing but trouble with mine.
Works fine on my macbook though.

Saffire is pretty sturdy, we use 2 with the band on stage.

I currently use an Echo AudioFire 4…very low latency with its FW setup and the price is very low online…

Hahahaha Karlos i rest my case!

Ahh yeah just re-read, mine is the USB version - which is dodgy on Windows - although since I put it into my USB hub seems better behaved.

Yeah that’s the Scarlett line, bit of a hit and miss depending on the rig.

That seems to defy logic :expressionless:

Came here to post this. DJTT you never disappoint.

Would it be a lot less risky on a MBP ?
