Pretty excited about a trip to New York this week. Just wondered if there are any places I should go check out? Record stores, places of musical interest etc.
Plus anything I could buy out there which would be good for the money. I know I’m buying a Zune HD 64gb because I have been after one for a while, so I will probably just get that from a Bestbuy. Maybe some in ear monitors. Really don’t know.
Just don’t want to come back and feel like I have missed out on seeing some places.
Rock and Soul is a great spot for music and equipment…462, 7th ave. in midtown. DON’T buy any electronics at any of those “touristy” looking spots with all the shiny new stuff all over the windows…they are such a rip off. As far as chill spots, the village has something for everyone and its all in walking distance. Enjoy!!!
Thanks for the reply! Yeah small private shops are what I’m more after. Family want to do the whole site seeing route but I’m just taking a load of cash and want to find the hidden places
I hear there’s a big metal lady on an island! Totally go there!
Also, Times Square at 3 am is the most surreal experience. Try that. You never imagine that a place can be so lively at all hours! Find a little pizza place just off there. The serve the biggest pizzas I’ve ever seen.
Bottom line, I guess, is that the entire city is amazing.
I love that idea. Just somehow got to convince the others that we should do this. Only staying 4 nights so they might to “sleep to get a early start the next day”. Pffft
Both of these favoured in google maps. BH photovideo looks amazing. It seems like my perfect store.
I can only assume this is the subway or something and I will find some action lol. Saying that maybe the English accent might get me some. Highly doubtful but hey would be a nice bonus
Sorry for the bump. Just wanted to know if it’s possible to get a prepaid data only sim or something like that while I’m out there. I know it’s only 4 days but I wouldn’t mind having net access while I’m about for google maps. My phones a Nexus One which I bought direct from google so it’s on the same frequency so that shouldn’t be a problem.
Im so jealous, I waited years to go to NYC and finally did this year. It is the best thing I have done in my 20 years of existence! If you’re a sports fan go to a Knicks game, its amazing!
I know, one of the things I love most about america is their sport. I mean imagine seeing british “high-school” kids playing basketball on national tv.
If you’re in Times Square and see/hear random people asking if “you like comedy shows,” ignore them, unless you and your family are actually looking to go to a comedy show, lol.
This is more-so things to do then places to see, but you can’t go wrong with the East or West Village or the Lower East Side (LES). There’s always something to do in those areas; really great restaurants and bars. Midtown is really touristy; you’ll find more 20-somethings around Union Square and the aforementioned areas.
If you have time to hit up a venue at night (I don’t know how old you are) and if you’re into DnB, Sullivan Room (218 Sullivan St) has a weekly event, Camoflauge, every Tuesday night. Usually starts at 10; website says it’s $5 before midnight, $10 after (camonyc.com).
I’m 22 but I’m going with family and my cousin is 19 so I doubt we will be going out to clubs because of that but that does sound like the exact place we would go to.
Doubt it. Unless you know a Tobes that lives in Cornwall in the UK
I want to sound cool and say that’s sounds like my kind of city. But I don’t smoke and paying for something which I could… probably… maybe… get for free here, isn’t my thing
Keep em coming guys. They are all going down on my map and I intend to go to them.
Rebel Rebel on Bleecker Street is also a good record shop (west village). One of the last standing…
Turntable Lab in the East Village is fun too (vinyl + gear).
Academy Records on East 12th Street is okay too.
If the fam needs clothing, Century 21 near ground zero is usually pretty popular.
J and R near City Hall is similar to B&H, and open on Saturdays…
