Funny thing happened last night at Electro Pop Rocks. B-Side Records has been hooking us up with extra sound for the last few weeks. Last night they brought an extra sub. The subs must have been throwing out some vibrations that haven’t been scene at Blakes in a long time because the ceiling above the DJ area was dusting the whole night. Anyhow, got kinda funny/scary about 12:30 when I piece of plaster landed right next to me during my set.
Yeah it’s already been done. It’s called driving home from a club at 3am with jackasses in the car who feel the need to continue to slam out when your exhausted.
Or rather being forced to be subjected to bass when your trying to sleep is infuriating imo.
heh. fair nough, im not one to complain about such things tbh. i go camping every year next to the biggest soundsystem in the country. drug abuse=a good nights sleep
I think there is such a thing as too much bass theres a point where the volume of the bass outweighs the mids and highs so it ends up sounding completely unbalanced and sounding like crap. Yeah a club system is ment to have more bass than say your studio monitors, but mids and highs sound nice too and i personally like to be able to appreciate them as much as the bass.
mids, agree. depending on how high/low they are
highs, disagree. i think one tiny high noise will always be heard, unless the bass is so loud that it kills your ears. i know this works for singers anyway. for example youll always be able to hear a single treble singer over 1000 alto or bass singers. but i dont beleive it works the other way around, is anybody able to prove that wrong or right with some physics? wave theory, peak and troughs etc? ive always beleived it to be true but ill beleive science before i beleive my music theory teacher
I can tell you this much there is a such thing as too much highs . I was in some super club in nyc a few years back I forget the name but it was next to Scores any how everyone was ranting and raving how great the sound is there blah blah it’s a Phazon system blah blah anyhow we get in there and the highs were incredibly painful . I left and went to scores and got some lapdances .
I gotta agree with Bento on this one. I’ve been too plenty of parties where the bass was cranked up way too much. The sound ends up being really muddy and the mids and highs get drowned out by the rumble.
It took me years to realize it, but on nights when I was absolutely loving it, it was usually a combination of an awesome DJ and immaculate sound setup. Now don’t get me wrong I love bass, but for me its all about balance deep, textured bass that rolls over you and roots you to the ground, crisp mids, and crystal clear highs that carry you into the stratosphere. I think that’s one of the reasons I haven’t really got that into dubstep, all base all the time gets a little dull to me.
And, bass induction as a torture method, sure. Just crank the bass frequencies to a sick low resonance that will stress the heart and brains, and you will have damage in no-time.
I’ve been looking for a video or an article about this, cause i’ve seen it before, but there was a military operation a few years back where they used a ridiculous amount of speakers to lay siege to a hostage situation. I forget the details, so if anyone can find it that would rock.
I was seeing a Kraftwerk concert where they had ridiculously big sound system for the small hockey arena. The bass was heavier I’ve ever heard and it was bouncing from the back wall.
I began feeling nauseous and it felt like my heart was bouncing to the beat of Mensch-maschine. Our group was pretty ready to leave by the halfway through the first song, but luckily something broke and it became bearable.
Sound quality was good the whole way, though. I never knew synth-pop (no offense) could be so “Oomph!”
been to rock am ring last year. it’s one of the 2 biggest festivals in germany. of course they had some super huge line arrays + subs standing there but the prodigy felt like they should bring their own. i didn’t feel like it was too much bass. it was simply awesome. i mean prodigy is one of the best live acts anyways but their music really works with alot of bass and superior sound quality.
i am a big fan of good sound quality and enough bass (got studio monitors on my ears all the time when i’m going somewhere). when a club doesn’t fill i am really more worried about the echos and reverbs in the room than the lack of atmosphere i think for EDM this applies even more. especially when there is no great lyrics on the track imo.
oh and too much hi’s → thats why i got earbuds with me all the time. they will cut the hi’s out widely if either the dj or the soundsystem sucks doing at that
If your in the UK and your into DnB you wouldve heard of this sound system. The Valve Sound System was specifically designed for DnB so the bass is amazing and LOUD.It famously brought the roof down literally at The Coranet club.Sadly it doesnt travel as the systems too big n heavy, but if your in the UK and you get the chance to see it used, you will be blown away
