Hey all, I just got traktor pro 2 and I’ve been having some trouble hooking it up to mt Denon MC6000, maybe i have the settings wrong. I want to use it as a 4 track mixer and I’m having trouble. when ever I hook it up and open Traktor the ch2 and ch3 faders act as the ch1 and ch2 faders, respectively.
now I was using my 6000 with VDJ and I found it to be much more user friendly and easier to navigate, although from the looks of it I can do a ton more with TP2. Is it really worth it going to TP2 from VDJ?
if anyone had hit this snag before or has any tips about TP2 and the 6000 in general all replies are great, thanks everyone.
Yup, there are positives and negatives to both softwares. It all, of course, depends on the user and what the user wishes to accomplish with his software of choice. I’d suggest the ease of setting up a MIDI controller to work with the software shouldn’t be your main judgement criteria. It’s not difficult with either, so it’ll only be an issue until you actually set it up.
Do everything with everything, no need for dedicated hardware, plug any crap in and it works. BUT don’t expect Traktor performance, just something workable.
much more powerful mapping capabilities with very few limits “it took me about 6 months of constantly trying complex things before I started to find any”.
tools to give any controller native “like” support in both midi & HID.
vst’s.
customisable GUI with tools to help with xml coding to make everything work .
having access to the sdk to develop plugins for audio, video & tools.
video.
able to control dmx lighting software with both midi and preset cue markers.
able to use any timecode record.
rewire, ableton, fruity, reason etc…
atomix actually consider users requests, you should see the beta forums consideration of new features for VDJ8.
atomix are a software only company who don’t charge for upgrades so their only interest is providing the best product they can, that will work with any control device…
average…
sampler works, but there is an extra step of setting up so they beatlock
worse…
default effects are shit
default skins jogwheels look shit
less implimentation of all the amazing functions, they are there, but not accessible in the default gui, however you can use them in custom skins and mappings.
eq frequencies suck (you can use a vst for this though)
mac support of plugins isn’t as good as the developers use mainly pc
Skins dont use vectors, so they need to be created in a compatible size for the monitor.
Wait what? I was unaware of the fact that VDJ supported VSTs.
Like… unlimited support? Which VSTs do you use?
Does that mean you can have as many audio channels as you want?
Can you route decks through VST effects independently?
The skins I’ve seen are god awful… Which ones do you use…? And which features can be unlocked by using them?
Also… by using VDJ, not only are you hated by the 80% of the scene that hates Laptop DJs… But even the rest of laptop DJs think you’re a joke… is it worth it?
you need to understand that there are vst’s and vsti’s. vsti’s are the complicated ones like effectrix and unfortunately they are hit and miss. but there are thousands of vst’s on the internet that work perfectly I use:
quadbyte filter
dblue - crusher
dblue - stretch
dblue - tapestop
audio damage - replicant
tal - reverb 2 & 3
Minimal Systems Instruments - Ultimate 3 band eq
Other vst’s from sugarbytes turnado, stutteredit work audiowise but they use a different way of refreshing the gui, so you can’t see any changes in the plugin as they happen, this is annoying but you can set presets in a daw and load them while in vdj…
Finally dblue’s glitch works perfectly in djdecks so I expect it to work in vdj8
if 99 is as many as you want then yes, if you want more than that you are using the wrong type of software and honestly if you wan’t to use more than 4 independant audio channels you need to rethink how you are doing everything.
you can route effects independantly, however in the current version you can’t run effects on the master.
I use grom mainly, but have started making my own… Features are always there as they are a part of vdjscript, it is only for people who are reliant on skins to give feedback before they utilize them.
anyone who has an opinion like that is usually regurgitating crap they read by people who don’t know shit about what they are saying, they are typically 16 - 18 years old and have 4 midifighters because they are cool, then they come onto forums and ask how another midifighter can improve their “workflow” not realising that midifighters are incredibly limited compared to most other controllers and require your “workflow” to bend around it’s limitations. Traktor is much the same, you need to find ways around it’s limitations to do what is in your head… Yes traktor has better intigration of features but less of them and much harder to manipulate.
First of all, beautiful skin mate, probably going to link that thread to some of my VDJ using buddies.
Second of all, I think Traktor’s limitations are both it’s best and worst attribute. For me, Traktor does everything I want it to do, looks good while doing it, and doesn’t load me down with a ton of extra features and configuration options. I understand that there are a lot of people out there that find Traktors capabilities to be limiting, they want to customize their software inside and out, use custom EQs, filters, etc… for them there are programs like Live and VDJ.
I can’t say I’ve put a lot of time into VDJ but I remember trying Live out for DJing and it was more work that I was willing to invest just to mix between some tunes. Traktor does me just fine, although I often consider a Launchpad, Live and JackOSX for going all loopy, we’ll see how the new Remix Decks pan out
Can you tell me what a launch pad does if you have VDj? I got one and have no IDEa how to use it. I know it’s supposed to give me loops drops effects and all kinds of mods but I hasn’t got the first idea how to use it. I’m assuming I need to map it to my program I have VDj and traktor pro 2. Any tips would be great ty
your missing the point of using midi controllers and software in place of hardware. with midi controllers you can make any control do anything accept in the case of the itch slicer or traktors remix decks, so if you wan’t the launchpad to control loops just map it as there are many different loop verbs in vdjscript eg.
wow if i wasn’t already super satisfied with the trak id deff be switching to VDJ, its looking alot better than when I used it. And that skin Syn is making is looking pretty good, even though in a club setting it’d be hard to see some things. But two decks with video mixing as well?! mind=blown
