I trully don’t understand why everybody seems to ignore VDJ?
I have been looking for an answer of this question for 2 days and hope somebody more pro will explain in details.
Some say Tractor PRO Is more stable program, but is this is the only reason?
The only thing I noticed with VDJ is that when change the pitich it sound unnatural like if the track always changes its speed and it is not stable. I think with traktor pro it is not like that , but correct me if I am wrong.
I have tried both and feel more fun using VDJ so the question is why would I change to Tractor PRO and why the PRO dj’s seems to prefer it?
Stability, better fx implementation/selection, and eq that actually sounds good. The only things vdj has going for it (yes I’ve used it before) is video mixing, built in key detection, and ability to work with different timecode signals. I think part of it might be vdj has a reputation of only being used by torrent wielding nubs, and tsp is more of a professional product. idk though, really it’s not what you use, it’s what it sounds like.
I use VDJ. Only thing where TP is better is the FX. No doubt about it. And the beatgridding/sync. Other than that VDJ is a worthy competition. The last crash i had with vdj was back in 5.0.1. Now its 6.0.5 and stable as hell. I do video and audio, use the sampler, fast cue-triggering and scratches are no problemo too.
When Vdj did the jump from 5.x to 6.x they added a ne EQ-engine. I saw tests that where made by traktor and VDJ users were VDJ and TP where compared. Test about output capacity, DB and so on. VDJ and TP where almost equal. TP is only 0.5 DB louder.
VDJ has just got a bad reputition. But most thing are not true whatsoever.
Just tested the EQ on both and it seems vdj acts well on high and low but middle is crap.
Traktor acts well in high and middle but low is just not right . when you increase the low it somehow suppresses the middle frequences.
the effects is personal preferences and I personnaly don’t find Tractor pro better on this part.
I don’t about betgrids , but haven’t seen anther software that combines both wave forms and detecets the peaks so well.
Has anybody noticed the sound problem with vdj when you change the pitch?
I loved VDJ, Its what got me into digital DJing. Yes through a torrent but i used it for over a year an loved it. I decided to buy a software and after seeing some stuff on this site i decided to purchase TP. It was good and bad at first. I’ve been using for about a year now and really like it. I always missed VDJ. True story I reinstalled it this morning and used it for an hour. Then uninstalled and went back to using traktor. I guess it is a thing that if you are used to one program you will prefer it. Like all my friends run SSL and love it. I show them how TP does so much more but non of them will switch.
I do miss the corny beatgrid effect on VDJ though LOL
Oh yeah and i loved how the wave form of each track overlaped each other. that helped me a lot.
I tried out Virtual Dj for the first tim yesterday after playing around with Traktor for a coupple months. It’s obviously not up to par with Traktor but imo it’s the best alternative out there that I have tried.
I have VDJ 5.0 Beta that I “borrowed” of a “certain” site!
Only thing I like about it more than Traktor is the gimmicky spinning vinyl and how the needle actually moves closer to the centre of the record as song progresses!
I tried Tractor Pro and cant find any function that VDJ doesn’t have , but I find few on VDJ that Traktor Pro doesn’t have like waveforms overlapping , video mixxing ofcourse , skin support , better song organization (history , most played , compatible songs)
What about true 4-deck support in TP and double instances with VDJ? TP wins.
How about Eans freeze trick. Or even a delay as effect? I cant think off anything else that VDJ cant do.
Dont get me wrong, i love my VDJ and wouldnt wanna trade, but honestly there are a few things where TP just wins. And there are points for VDJ also, like as you mentioned, the skin support, video, sampler, the overlapping waveforms (which i dont use nomore, mine lokks like ssl) and much more. A worthy competition IMHO
true, they kinda shot their own leg. But thats their business plan, cooperating with other companies and let them use the base of the program, like ejay mixstation, Numark Cue or Virtual Vinyl.
As Atomix is a web-based company they did need the help of a settled hardware marketer like numark to get into stores in a physicall form.
Numark Cue is essentially the same as VDJ or Virtual Vinyl. Only differences are:
VDJ is a web-release, cant be bought in stores,
Numark Cue is VDJ, but sold in stores and getting updates later cause numark checks them first,
and Virtual Vinyl is like Numark Cue, but with a dedicated soundcard like SSL.
I think its a nice idea, that way people that dont buy ish online can get vdj too.
I originally had VirtualDJ 5.2 and loved it. I learned how to DJ on it, and it inspired me to buy my TotalControl. But I wanted the Midi Mapping features in Traktor, which is why I switched. But now there is VDJ 6.0, with the new MIDI features and all. I try to use traktor, but as said before, I can’t seem to get away from VDJ because its easy interface is what I learned on.
Yes, Traktor has it in the FX dept. , but that’s all.
Vinyl control is tight as hell with SSL TC, and even better with the SCS.
I was very surpised with the perfromance when i started using 6. I was just like everybody else. Writing it off as “that” program everybody fooled around with on their computer. It ain’t like that anymore. This is a serious DVS, and as I said already, the midi controll is even better.
One area it beats Traktor is vinyl control, YES I SAID THAT!, due in part to the ability to easily go into the pref and adjust the sensitivity quickly.
Yeah and you also get the option to use several different timecode signals, and any soundcard you damn well please unlike scratch live. I’m not going to switch anytime soon though
although the effects on traktor pro sound much better than vdj, I also miss the beatgrid effect. I think I will fiddle with the “beatslicer” settings to see if i can recreate that tacky but fun pattern.
advancd Midi maping is not an issue with VDJ anymore, also not havinf samples in tractor pro is a big step back!.
About the effect have you tried all VDJ effects? There are plenty to use and love
I wonder why Ean hasn’t put his hands on this software yet and create some nice mapping and some cool DJtechschool skin
Also just remembered. Have you noticed when using traktor and pitch bend the sound cuts for a milisecond before it restores the original tempo and it doesn’t restore it smoothly like in vdj.
I find this really non vinyl. Same thing done with VDJ sound amazing.
