hmmm, i’m thinking of a workaround with independant midi channels, but it’s kinda tedious.
basically make 8 midi channels with 8 clips each (corresponding to each button on the grid). buttons need to be mapped as well to trigger the independant clips (when more than 1 led is needed you use a chord).
this is similar to the trick used for the drumpad to light up in a 4*4 grid in the controller.
Ultimately yes you could have a track for every single button, use the velocity in the clip to define the colour and then group all the tracks to save on real estate, i used to do this for the apc40 all the time before max4live…
In max the practise is really no different, you listen for when the pad is pressed apply some rules and then choose how you want it lit, their isn’t any inbuilt lighting functionality within the launchpad it’s all based on feedback…

Lights are velocity-dependent. Try playing with it

It agree. But velocity works only on midi chanel.

Yea, but You can’t use session mode and mixer mode with it
You can use the mixer mode and default modes with Automap. Check out http://thedspproject.com for info on this. Great tutorials on the subject.
