Electro.

Electro.

I’ve never got it. From Kraftwerk through to Crystal Castles I’ve never found the attraction. I’ve always found this type of EDM soulless and abrasive. Sorry folks.

I’m willing to be proved wrong though. Can anyone put me in the right direction of some electro that will make me feel something other than disdain and horror. I want you to prove me wrong and that there is something I can relate to. Remember, harsh, course, noises aren’t going to win me over. Surely there is something out there with a bit of soul to it.

No?

MSTRKRFT, Justice

It really depends on what you consider electro. The fine lines between genres all seem blurry to me. Like in 2000-2002 when there were 500 sub genre’s of drum 'n bass.

i will agree that much of the new electro is taking on this “rock and Roll” balls to the wall atitude with the likes of the Bloody Beetroots, Les Petits Pilous etc…

But from Kraftwerk to Crystal Castles you couldn’t find any “soul”?

mentioned before me, electro transcends many genre lines. try listening to the more disco esq Electro songs.

the new cats like strip steve and louis la roche

I understand these discussions are 100% subjective, but if you cant find soul in that, then it sounds like your have your mind set.

and for relativity, what EDM genres do you favor?

I love strip steve!

“Electro” is quite vague, please post up what you consider “Electro.”

im pretty sure thats Disco House

-Gianmarco

so far my ultimate"fall-back-and-go-to-any-genre-from-here" track

-Gianmarco

And they are not Electro…

A lot of new tracks you hear are not “Electro” if it does not have a Detroit sound…it probably is not Electro.

Haha yeah a lot of these are in a pretty grey area. strip steve is def disco (even described as such by bnr) and duck sauce is leaning towards house smeared with cheese (considering half of the duo is armand van helden).

I don’t think you need someone to prove it, you either like it or you don’t like any genre. I think all pop music is fuckin trash but a lot of people jam out to it. I am pretty heavy into electro simply because it’s different.

Since you mentioned crystal castles - none of their shit is the same, theres nothing but obscure samples and fucked up synths jammed into all sorts of arrangements. I find experimental stuff so much more interesting than just droning house music that has the same chorus 5 times. Each to their own, why do you feel it’s so important to like electro?

agreed, in fact I think we can all agree that there is an enormous influence of disco in much of house music and its many sub genres. Disco house is just as vague as the term electro. I was only illustrating some tracks that IMHO had some “soul” what ever that may be. for example I think its silly to argue that a group like classixx is primarily disco house… I mean to cover Kraftwerk to Crystal Castles is no small feat! If the OP cant find a track with some soul in that spectrum then im afraid we are wasting our time with this thread.

Correct and IMO House is the evolution of disco. All these subgenre’s are like the grandchildren of disco with dubstep and D&B being the bad kids that smoke cigarettes and are in and out of jail.

really likeing the fidgety/electro stuff theses days about 1:30 on in this video

No electro for me, no thanks
nothing against it, but I do think electro doesn’t change too much, there aren’t many shades, colours, I would’t know how to say… I like music that changes…

alright, its electroclash, AND their are lots of random noises. However, i find it has soul

Not sure about that to be honest?

Fischerspooner is probably the most (technically) Electro person (IMO) I can think of in the truest sense of the word.

You have a ALOT of Electro house around at the moment which have the electro synths which is what people latch on to at the mo.

I like all electro’s arms…and it’s legs

I grew up on punk so for me that harsh intense electro does the trick haha.
I’m not very good with genres but…

But for real, you can’t generalize about electro as a whole

I love the whole punk vibe of the beetroots. And i’m really diggin’ the whole Rifoki thing.

Miles Dyson makes some dirty electro stuff, his song “Anthem” is awesome but I’m not sure if it would be electro. He also produces a lot of other artists from his label plasmapool, lots of good stuff there.

Dude that was one of the BEST comments I have seen on here yet!
