Looks like a fun set, Have to dust off my Creepers and Members Only Jacket for this one…I dont see the Clash!

Me so horny - 2 Live Crew.

This is an awesome open set man!

These get the official Photojojo seal of approval.

And I’m stealing this one.

I would have very sore feet after dancing that night away..!

EXPLOITED ‘sex & violence’ inspired choice. Never thought id see that tune in a set these days.
Too many classics in there to point out.

Thats what i call ‘eclectic’

I wanted to play some clash, but some girls were asking for hip hop, so I had to drop a set.

I think thats one of the best closing songs! Especially when everyone is drunk!

Thanks Karlos, you need to come out to L.A. and Get F’ed Up!

Hey, if youre over 21, come out on a sunday night! Heck come and do a set!

Good news for people who love bad news is on of my all time fav’s!!! Big up’s for the first half of your set

me too, I saw them live at Rothbury a couple years ago, they were incredible live.

O.M.G…Daaamn! Panty Droppers…

Make em sweat!! Nice! I need to get with you on some old Depeche Mode remixes, if you are aware of any. Mmmmmm…good tracks

Thanks JesC

meh post this in your blog. just because you’re a mod doesn’t make this interesting.

Doooood…not cool. This was a follow up he promised to post for us. We were asking about it.

Now…tell us what’s really wrong.

We value you as part of this kick ass Community…really, it’s quite amazing as you dive deep into it.

Anyway Jasperjones, we’re glad to have you here as part of the DJTT crew.

Also, the mods here don’t just take care of all of this for us, they are a key component of what this Entire Community hinges on and participate daily, hourly and inbetween.

It’s pretty cool here, and so are all of those who make up this great little place we have here.

I think ‘Ecclectic’ sums up your style Jes … Fantastic

I found this thread inappropriate for the “General Discussion” subforum and perhaps more suitable for “Mixes and Productions.” Obv, I’m still new here. And, all right, I’m starting to realize the thread is relevant to more ppl than I thought initially.

Tbh, the track selection makes me kinda sad. I’m somebody who doesn’t particularly follow popular culture. I don’t listen to the radio, I rarely watch TV. I couldn’t care less about most main mainstream music (by which I mean top 40 style pop, rock, and hip hop).

Yet, I am aware of about 9 out of 10 tracks the OP played. Virtually all tracks are playable at hundreds of exchangeable clubs across the country. In fact, you could hear at least half of those songs at clubs, dances, weddings, and other public events even five (or ten) years ago. What is inspired or unique about this set? Obv, I find it very unimaginative–it’s totally standard fare, we’re looking at the McDonald’s-ization of music here. Feel free to tell me I’m wrong.

You’re not alone. I have no TV, never everrrr listen to radio and I work 72-80 hours a week…really.

Without speaking directly for JesC, but in general:

Music selection was based on:

  1. His Scene
  2. His Crowd
  3. His Style
  4. His Skills
  5. The airspeed velocity of an unlaiden swallow
  6. His abilities, drive, passion and aspirations
  7. This is what makes us, us.

The formula is simple…in order to keep doing what you’re doing, you must unlock achievements. In JesC case, this is his choice, his history and what he has grown up with/around and influenced by. I have a lot of respect for the ability to put this together and rock the crowds nightly.

This music selection may not be your choice, and that’s ok. My preference is all over map so you’ll never pin me down and I have much respect for all directions. That came with age, as well. I span generes, decades and appreciate the influences that led us to this great opportunity.

JesC has wisely chosen music that fits his crowd…and that’s the point. It works for for his crowd and it works for him, consistently. Simple equation.

I’m fairly certain that JesC has an enormous amount of experience as well, so no need to knock him…that’s just not cool.

We respect your decisions, choices and music selection. We also look forward to hearing why they work for you and your crowd. It could just be you growing, developing and loving the music like you never knew you could…or you could be killing it, and drop damage on the crowd, that has them begging for more (JesterNZDJ…no doubt great stuff!!)

Take a look around the forums and dig in.

We want you here, we want your opinions and insights to what make all of this a better place.

Thank you jasperjones…it’s good to be here and only getting better everyday!

Dig in and get a feel for the personalities, skills, advice and sense of a great Community.

We’re like the Borg…we assimilate.

Nostalgia man.

Old songs inspire old memories, and that often creates a great vibe.

I think the set rocks. Biggie, 2 Live Crew and Rick James. Now thats a Party!!!

Serious question for the guys that don’t get out much. How do you know whats good??? Is it all based on personal taste. How do you stay in touch with your crowds that you play for.

With as little respect as you showed the OP with your initial comment Jasper your talking Fucking Bullshit.

[long post edited , whats the point]

lol…Jasper, we’re all family here. Eat, Sleep, Argue, sleep with each others girlfriends, drive each others cars, etc…it’s what we do.

Welcome to the fold

Are you f*cking kidding me… Thats the most ridiculous statement ive read on here for ages.

Just cus you arent interested dont mean others arent.

Would you like some ice with your Bitter lemon…

Its a DJ Forum. His set is interesting by definition. DUH!!!

Well you have tripped yourself up here and shown your self to be totally uninformed about music.

This isnt a set of uber new pop hits. You wont hear them on the radio or tv.
Nothing angers me more that people who claim “oh i dont listen to radio of watch tv, I dont know what Lady Gaga is” fuck off what horse shit.
We are all subjected to some infiltration of popular shit.
I am not buying it…

HOW CAN YOU KNOW WHAT IS STANDARD TOP40 & OBVIOUS IF YOU DONT HAVE A RADIO OR TV. HOW DO YOU KNOW..?

There are lots of tunes in that list that you simply dont hear anywhere these days. Thats the great thing.
Its inspired because he played tunes such as the Exploited tune that is not the typical Punk that the band turned out. Its a swerve choice that i would not expect to hear and if i did id think that the DJ was pretty clued up.

I have no idea what any of the Spanish tunes are. In fact in looked a few up last nite on iTunes. I liked some, i disliked others.

Are you seriously saying that you hear ADAMA ANT “Beat My Guest” at your usual High St Club… Yeah some of his set is very Top40 but i guess thats tp please that element of the crowd. Are you saying thats a bad thing.

Yes there are some tunes i wouldnt play in that set but
This set is a very eclectic set and makes me think that hes lucky to be able to be so diverse in one 4 hour set.

“McDonaldization of Music” what planet are you on.
Its a fucking DJ set for a clubnight not a Manifesto for a new world order.

Its a piece of piss to play a set of obscure tunes that no-one will dance to.
There always someone more uber-cool and underground than you.
The harder thing is to play a set thats interesting AND danceable without being a chin-strokers wet dream.

SIGH

Its good that there are more forgiving people on the forum.

Me, i think this is either a joke or something really fuckin stupid.

Do i come off as a bit miffed..? Yeah i am. Not cus its JesC and i like him or cus hes a Mod but because Jaspers initial comment is just so pointless.

Post your set up Jasper…
