Officialy Made the switch

Officialy Made the switch

I have officialy made the switch from Virtual DJ to Traktor! I just uninstalled VDJ and now feel comfortable with traktor, still learning to barely look at my scream and listen to the music but I’ll get there!!!
:smiley::smiley::smiley:

Congratulations.

Why did you make the switch?

Virtual DJ holds you back on so many things. The things I saw that it geld me back on is actually beatmatching. Also, the double wave form on top of virtual DJ makes it so you depend on it to know when to transition when you news to know the song instead of wave form

jeez, talk about beatin a dead cat  What is it that makes traktor so much better? How does VDJ hold you back on beatmatching, and what are the other drawbacks? I mean, why dont u just use a different skin without the double waveform? Or just dont look at it? It just sounds to me like fanboyish behavior… uuuh i got traktor, i am a better DJ now. IMO its about skillz not the program u use. no pun intended. I´d just like to know

btw, whats your setup anyways?

because Traktor has proven to be stable… at least for me.

 cool.. thats why VDJ is chosen to be the best DJ Software at WMC 2010   Its not the software, its the user. Sounds familiar?

known fact, VDJ never crashed on me once, Traktor did. Which Version of VDJ did you guys use, just out of curiosity?

Haha I waited for you to jump in Arne.

VDJ is cool, most people know that. No need to defend it but thanks for clearing up some common misconceptions about it.

I heard that demons in VDJ make it impossible to turn off automix, and that every time you fire it up a cute little kitten gets kidney failure.

Just, you know, on the grape vine.

muahaha, good one there FEP

on a serious note, i totally do not dislike traktor, i know what it can do and what it can not. I admit, there are some features inside traktor pro 2 that i would soooo love to have inside VDJ, but also vice versa. For example, the loop recorder, or VDJ´s capability of more decks, VST FX, the mapping capabilities, ableton rewire inside TP. I could go on all day. In the end i think both are great

I´d just like to hear one good reason for switching programs. All of the before said reasons could well be solved inside of VDJ… except it was the free home version or a cracked version thats 5 years old. Than i dont consider it switching, than its more like the really first real baby steps using a DJ program. VDJ PRO 7 FULL is on a whole other level than the home version

@ hedge, yeah u know me, who elso would do, if not me?

I started on VDJ and my best mate still uses it (v6 with some weird skin), but I just don’t like it any more. Got nothing against people who use it though, personal preference.

word, that´s what it comes down to  personal preference. Thats why i´m always curious to find out why people make the switch. I might miss out on something

But as long as its only some UI issue, or some wrong setting, i´ll rep VDJ´s side  It can even look different, as we know

btw, thats no official skin and was only made to play with peoples perception of the software the dj uses. It was some kind of field study, one could say

Edit: perception.. i´ve meant perception

Officialy Made the switch

When I first started learning to DJ the chick who was showing me the ropes would (and still does) play out with VDJ. She’s not bad and what I quite liked when I first saw it were the effects that went in sync with the beats (forget the actual term right now, i.e. Flanger). I just couldn’t get used to the double wave form. Confused me more than anything. I might have made the switch if I hadn’t already gotten TP from her (which she didn’t like). I think they’re both great program. My biggest complaint was the skin yes but I don’t have a great history with having programs be reliable when I start changing skins. I’m sure VDJ is fine but it’s left a bad taste in my mouth since haha.

I was on vdj for two years and loved it. Traktor is just better for me personally.

I actually quiet liked the wave forms at the top of the gui. One thing i can say makes traktor 100% better for me is the beatgriding.

Also in my opinion vdj looks a bit fisher pricey and not as professional as traktor.

But like i said its all down to personal preference..

My 2cents

I rather liked VDJ but fucking hell, how are you supposed to use that fucking audio setup wizard? It’s so dumbed down I have absolutely no idea what option I’m supposed to be using.

thats not the issue, it was dealing with bleeding sound from the cue into the master out when scrolling through the track fast and it’s unusually high cpu usage.

doesnt sound like a legit copy to be honest… bleeding cue into the master? c´mon, that sounds like a faulty controller. never heard that one before. So you are basically saying that VDJ needs more cpu than traktor? Or do you have high cpu usage with TP too?

I personally think that Traktor is way better than VDJ but thats just me

Okay about VDJ vs Traktor software stability, I’m gonna put it this way.

Yesterday I reinstalled Mac OS X and updated to 10.6.8 get get a clean start for Lion really. I installed Traktor, and some other essential apps for me. Nothing impacting core system files, apart from my Xone 4D audio driver, which isn’t giving me any problems in any software (the time with unstable 4D drivers are behind us, baby). Traktor runs fine with this. This is what I’d consider a ‘fresh’ install to be like.

Today, just for kicks, I decided to download VDJ Home from the Mac App store as it’s free. It installed, I ran it. Splash screen, then a crash. Didn’t even see the main program for a split second. Tried opening it again, and the same shit happened over and over again.

So, VDJ, from the Mac App store where the first requirement (2.1, check it out if you are a registered paying developer at Apple) is that ‘Apps that crash will be rejected’ just didn’t open.

A fresh installation.
From the recommended source.
On a Mac.

Damn that shit is built not to run.

Sorry to hear about that. Seems to me like a faulty installer or sth like that. Would you mind trying to D/L from the original recommended source, beeing VirtualDJ - Download VirtualDJ ? There was a new home version lately, chances are high that the apple store is still a version behind. Or could it be that some kind of update was missing, as you had a fresh install of your OS?

Btw, what model of the mac do you have? Whats your screen size? do you have a HFS+ case sensitive filesystem?

And to be honest, VDJ is build around directX and gets programmed for PC in the long run (personal opinion). It does work very well on a mac most of the time, just like serato f.e. can run on a PC. But i think its main intendance is to work on a Windows OS.

btw, Chtulhu, would you mind explaining WHAT it is that makes Traktor better?

I would generally consider the Mac App store the recommended source for any Mac app where available, due to the rigorous requirements for admittance. However, it seems that it’s possible to slip between the cracks, such as with VDJ Home.

10.6.8 is the latest public update available, and 7.0.4 is the latest VDJ Home version both on the website and the Mac App store. Just by going to the website you can see infringements on the Mac App store marketing model. Somehow I’m not surprised about this as the clearly couldn’t fix something like the initial crash.

2010 13" MBP HFS+ Journaled Case Sensitive, and I believe the culprit is the file system: badly written applications don’t like it. Better yet, it is not readily advertised that there are issues with Case Sensitive file systems. Possibly a carryover from Windows.
