Purchasing Max 7 or M4L

I would like to purchase Max 7, as I am a student, it is $250, but ableton live 9 suite is $449 (Which comes with Max for Live) so I may as well pay 200 extra to get Ableton too, but If I get Ableton instead of Max 7 standalone, can I still use Max 7 separately?

I have Live Suite and I’m able to run Max 7 standalone.

I’ve never tried it, but it’s loading up on my machine right now with Live, so it would appear you can have all of Max’s functionality outside of Live if you got Suite.

Oh cool! So even with Live closed you can still open Max and use it and everything?

Correct. At least I could open it just fine. I didn’t do anything with it as I’m not much of an M4L or Max guy. (probably should be more)
