Rmx 1000

Rmx 1000

Hey guys, just want to get a feel out for what people think of the Pioneer RMX 1K

It looks like a handy device but I’m not sure it’s worth the price-tag.

Have you used it? If so what do you think of it?

If not, do you use an alternative etc?

It looks awesome and I’d love to try one out but I couldn’t see myself spending that much money on what basically is an effects unit with some small extras

It’s a pretty dope box. I was able to use a Pre-production one. And was impressed with the sampler & fx.

yeah I got to play with it for an hour or so at WMC and it is really pretty badass. The effects are pretty overbearing, like everything Pioneer, but if you don’t mind that, they are laid out really nicely and the workflow is intuitive. Within minutes I was sounding halfway decent on the thing, and the little flick-switch to get yourself out of trouble and go back to the mix is kinda brilliant. Plus you can use it as an isolator if you’re into that sort of thing, and there’s a handy sampler/sequencer as well. It’s a tightly integrated unit; I really liked it but I probably wouldn’t buy one because (1) what I said about the effects - as soon as you touch it everyone knows you’re playing on Pio gear… which is fine, but I’d just as soon play songs instead, (2) the price - put it out there at half this price and it would be reasonable, and (3) my mixer doesn’t have a send/return circuit!!

Yeah the price is what’s stopping me from getting one. You’re right though, they’re overbearing effects too.

I can see myself having a lot of fun with it though.

I just recently purchased one, the price is a little step but luckly Long and McQuades near me had one in stock that had been rented for a week so I purchsed that at a reduced price since it was used, saved myself close to $200. Reason I bought it was I use a Xone 62 mixer which dosn’t have effects, it was either I sold my mixer saved up money and bought a DJM-900 or purchased an effects box, which seemed like a logical cheaper way around my issue of wanting effects but not really lol I still want the DJM-900, I’d like to run the rmx-1000 through send\return (my mixer dosn’t have this) and everything else I own is currently Pioneer… lol… the effects are a little overbearing but all of the effect peramters can be edited in the RMX-1000 software. Other than being left still wanting the DJM-900 the RMX-1000 is a great piece of kit imo, even though I’d like the DJM-900 to accompany it and to gain send\return, I can still quite happy get by usilng the unit as it is now with my Xone 62, maybe a little steep in price but what pioneer equipment isn’t??? lol.

The general feeling I’ve noticed around here is that it’s a pretty rad piece of kit, but not even close to worth the $1000 price tag.

Only reason I can see for using one is if you are BOTH:

  1. really into production/live remix effects
    AND
  2. really into not having a laptop on stage

Otherwise you’re silly.

..

Price of a RMX 1000 is $699 in American Dollars not 1000$

The price is coming down - looking at about £600 on eBay. Bloody tempting, actually…

I do love mine but as everyone’s mentioned, the effects can be very high output and add quite a few db to the output. Am sure they’re meant to work more as a send/return unit with djm’s, but do love mine.

Oddly, at my regular club, the sounds are way too strong and I have to be careful. But at a guest slot I did a couple of weeks back, I could just blast it out and there was no problem at all - had such a good night with it. So I also guess there’s other factors such as how the EQ and limiting and the speakers you’re going through cope with things.

Def love it though. This month has been hell as I’ve been so poor having decided to get one, but loved having it with me and the simplicity of it’s control coupled with how many sounds you can get out of it is great. Still exploring the sample side of things and yet to delve into tweaking the presets, but the extra of the VST version of it is a great bonus.

how do you use it without a send/return? Do you just put it on the entire output?

Yup, IMO it’s a waste to use it this way but luckily not everyone thinks like I do.

There’s a little switch on the back that changes the DB output for S/R or master out. So I usually have it between my S4 main out and the input to the house mixer. Not ideal but still usable

i used one last night for about an hour and i thought it was an awesome peice of kit… so much fun, and if used properly/sparingly (as with any fx) sounded excellent. now to just find the cash to buy one

I really like mine. One of the things that gets overlooked is the sample decks. Way cool.

I’v had mines since it first came out and love the thing, At one point i did feel it was getting quite limiting to what you can do on it but i then watched my mates set on his one and it just showed that you can take your set to a whole different level if you sit and configure it to how you want. I haven’t had a chance to do it yet but my mate has and it’s now the key piece of his setup.

I use mine with my S4 and love it. Being able to apply effects to certain frequencies is really badass IMO. Theres a firmware update out that has really calmed down some of the effects that were overbearing.

Got one yesterday, I was at the vestax tour at decks in London and they had 10% off everything, and After playing with it for ages I knew I needed in my life. My mate and I were playing Amon Tobin through it and gathered a small crowd in the store haha.

Now all I need is for A&H to give me a send return in a firmware update and I’ll be happy!

Quick question, does anyone have any idea where you can get a suitable stand for the RMX? Pio’s POS material has this photo

but that stand doesn’t seem to exist. I have mine on my crane stand but I’d prefer to have that for other things.

Looks to be an official product from this picture, id love one but the new CDJs are higher on the list, hoping for 900NEXUS but aint gona happen.
