The Vestax Spin DJ Controller!

Part 2 of the “review” Well, he justs plays a track. Dosent do anything special, some looping.

Anyways, great to see it in use!

Guess this is the full review!

Awesome thanks

After watching the youtube videos I have a pretty good idea of what this controller is capable of. Even though the scratching video of the guy in the “club” is sweet, I don’t think I’m going to be able to live with the limited controls and crappy software. I’m gonna get the Numark Stealth and DJio. $10 more than the spin but the Stealth is so much better. Good luck for you guys who get this. Make sure you post a review.

Well, I think the controller is very good! And, thingy with the video is that he aint a DJ! I think, if someone more pro did a review, would be much better.

Bunch of newb questions here. Why the VCI-300 was so attractive was that Itch and Scratch were so closely integrated; i.e. you could use the VCI-300 as a home thing, then just grab the laptop and control vinyl to play in a club SL1/SL3 setup (in New Zealand there ain’t nothing but Serato setup in the clubs :sunglasses:slight_smile:
This thing looks like a MUCH more affordable solution for the home mucking around thing, but you’d have to maintain a separate Scratch library and that DJay software looks uber-gimmicky tbh. As I understand it, you can’t map a jogwheel-based controller to Scratch Live (is that still right?) so could you map the Spin to Itch to at least keep the shared libraries? Or has Serato locked away the midi maps for Itch still?

Cheers

Ya but still. The quality of the Stealth and it working directly with Traktor are my main reasons for deciding. This seems like more of a super beginner thing. I would like to see a vid with a dj with expericne though trying this out.

Well, with time i’ll guess there will be one.
Does stealth come with a int-soundcard?

Nope.
DJio+Stealth=$300 (No tax)
Vestax Spin=$250+tax

In the end it’s like a $10 difference. I would assume the DJio is better quality than the one in the spin too.

So as long as I have ASIO4all, it’s fine right?

It’s really tempting for me to take this over the Omni Control ($100 more and the jog doesn’t seem so interesting to use).

why do you assume that? the dj/io is pretty much bottom of the barrel…

i really thought this controller was a joke only because of the software and AUTOMIX but from a real standpoint that isnt coming from a hater such as myself, how is this djay software spin hardware combo

I am looking into buying this device… primarily because I don’t find it in my aspect the Numark Stealth appealing at all.

But I have a PC and I know the software is not compatible with PC.

I’ve heard that the hardware is compatible with a PC laptop, but can I use let’s say traktor or better yet serato with this hardware so it can work on my PC?

Hopefully someone answers my question and I hope it works.

It’s funny iv got the sickest digital enhancing software CS4 on m computer and could have made this look actually real, but i decided to go with MS Paint…

i only sampled silver knobs and faders you can buy individually online (so it’s fully creatable if you like it.)

If your planning to use serato with a vestax controller your best off buyinh the VCI300 (600$ used) other wise youd have to buy a seroto soundcard(for around $400 used) plus this controller ($250 currently only available new)

so if you add up those numbers the VCI 300 is a much more solid and professional grade unit for a lower price.

Traktor on the other hand with the “spin” is a smart choice for a beginner on a slight budget.

Then all I need is traktor. I only need the software??? I wouldn’t need anything else???

I don’t care about Serato I was just really using it as an example.

Yea, The Spins got a sound card built in like the VCI 300, with either you DONT need to get the expensive Traktor package with the Audio 4 or 8 sound card. people just need a separate sound card for the VCI100 cause theres not one in it, or for time code vinyl usage.

As for the Spin & PC, all you need essentially is a computer, the controller, software (with midi mapping), headphones, & speakers.

Those fader style eq’s would take some getting used to, good for a start tho.

So just to make sure that I am right on this… All i got it do is buy the Traktor software and I don’t have to worry about the soundcard because it is included with the Traktor software.

Excuse me but AHHHHHHHH!
sorry.

Whitch TRAKTOR? there are three versions

If you buy the Vestex “spin” or VCI300 (witch both have built in soundcards) you can just get TRAKTOR PRO (which is just software)

If you get the VCI 100 (no built in soundcard) your going to want to get TRAKTOR SCRATCH DUO, or TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO (much more expensive cause it comes with software and a soundcard.)

help with mapping the spin for traktor pro…

I would be so amazingly grateful to anyone out there that could help with a mapping of the spin for traktor scratch pro…

it’s my first time ever mapping a midi controller- i understand the basics but I’m having a hard time figuring out how to map a few crucial elements

if someone could share their .tsi that they’ve already made i would jump for joy!
