Top ten DJs ever

Mixmag recently did a poll to see who its readers would vote the top ten DJs ever, ever. It got some real DJs to vote too.

I think Frankie Knuckles should be in there. This list just seems way too recent.

No sheeeet, I can’t understand the absence of old skool meisters.

Mixmag is a British mag, so there is a UK slant of course. And also, you’d think that DJing only started in 1995 given the guys who are there.

I’d have put Larry Levan in.

Maybe Mixmag’s readers’ average age is 12 and a half?

Mixmag obviously hasn’t heard BLOOD BROS Parts I and II by Dirty South Joe and DJ A.

They top the list by a long shot, mostly because they made the best mixes of the year without playing any club music.

As in my (earlier) thread ‘Another Irrelevant Poll’ - emphasis on IRRELEVANT.

  • British mag (no offence guys)
  • average age of reader is about 11 - maybe 12
  • did someone say ‘rigged’?
  • who exactly ADVERTISES in that rag
  • Tiesto (#1 - in case you didn’t know) vs. Hawtin (#2) is like comparing a Technics turntable to a S4

No John Digweed? WWWTFFF!!!

Sasha deserves his place, same with Paul van dyke(not a huge fan but the guy has championed this music for almost 20 years, and was one of the first DJs doing live remixing back in 01)

my top ten (just my opinion, you might guess I like hip hop just a bit) Most americans no offence are totally confused by the stuff scruff and yoda do I reckon most of you lot would get it tho)

1 - DJ Craze
2 - Qbert
3 - Francis Grasso ( everyone should know who he is)
4 - Grand master flash
5 - Fatboy slim
6 - DJ Yoda (he is the reason I started DJing)
7 - Mr Scruff ( he mixes with vinyl but everything and most of it aint made with a drum machine like the stuff tiesto plays.)
8 - 2 many DJ’s
9 - Jaguar skills
10 - Jazzy Jeff

PERIOD No argument!!! These guys are REAL DJS. I barely consider myself a DJ when I hear craze or qbert spin. These guys are FUCKING GODS!!!I just mix tracks together these create music in the way miles davis created music. They are fucking brilliant.

And fat boy slim, serisly that guy is one sick MoFo. I had this old mix of his from 98 and its just the most mind blowing mix in the world. While I have never been a big fan of his producing his DJ skills are only really second to the 2 guys above.
