Hi Everyone, I seem to be having some trouble mapping LED outs to buttons on my Maschine MKII mapping I am working on. Right now I have 4 separate buttons (Restart, Step <-, Step ->, and Grid) that turn FX units 3 and 4 on together on decks A,B,C, and D respectively. I am trying to map the LED’s so that they will turn on and off relative to the FX units being on and off. Thus far I haven’t been able to get the LED’s to turn on whatsoever. I have tried mapping LED out commands for each modifier (when M8=0,1,2, and 3) and mapping an out command: Send Modifier State. Can you please give me any input on what I am doing wrong?
P.S I don’t know if this makes any difference but I have also tried changing the LED on option in controller editor from Midi in to Midi out. When the option is in Midi out, the button LED’s light up only when i press them, but remain off regardless of the FX unit state.
You don’t need any modifier to do that.
Create your two toggle fx units commands for each respective buttons
Learn out only one toggle command for each button (You wrote fx units 3 will be on at the same time as 4 so only use the led out for fx unit 3 on/off only for example).
Done.
Only advice I would give you would be to check if your toggle commands works fine as you may need to change inside the controller editor the type of buttons for Maschine.
For your ‘future’ mappings, your idea of having a single modifier is only interesting if only units 3&4 are engaged for only 1 deck at the same time, otherwise you need to have 4 different modifiers (one or several decks at the same time can have the fx units engaged at the same time) not a single modifier with different values here. But Im’ guessing here only what you want to do so I may be wrong.
Thanks for the help, I forgot my password on my old account so I couldn’t reply, but your advice did help somewhat, but I came across more issues. I changed the button type in Controller Editor to Toggle (it was on trigger before). The LED’s do light up when I press them, but now I must press the button twice to change the modifier, and in turn do what I mapped the button to do, which is turn the fx banks on and off. the button will turn on and off each time I press it, but will only change the modifier state after 2 presses. Do you have any ideas as to why this is happening?
P.S. Just to further explain- though I do appreciate your suggestions- I have two modifiers in use to turn each fx bank on. M7 for decks A and B, and M8 for decks C and D. M7=0, FX banks off- M7=1, on deck A, off deck B- M7=2, on deck B, off deck A- M7=3, on both A and B. the same goes for deck C and D on M8
Thank you for the help, I did was changing the button type of the buttons, and I changed it to toggle (it was on trigger before) and the buttons now light up when they are pressed but now they must be pressed twice in order for them to change the modifier, and thus, turn the fx banks on and off. the buttons LED turns on and off with each press, but only turns the fx banks on and off after 2 presses. Any ideas as to why this is happening? and help is appreciated.
ps. Just to further explain, I have 2 modifiers in use for this setup, M7 for decks A and B, and M8 for decks C and D. FX banks 3 and 4 can be turned on and off for all 4 decks simultaneously, which is exactly what I want them to do
Any ideas as to why this is happening? and help is appreciated.
because you used ‘toggle’ as the type of buttons inside the controller editor, something you shouldn’t do as trigger is the right one.
? which one is the right answer? I don’t get you.
if I get you, you have 4 buttons relating respectively to 4 decks, each button turning on/off a pair of fx units (3&4) for each deck?
If that 4 buttons don’t have any other functions, why do you need modifiers here? On what buttons are your modifiers? why?
Either way your issue is very simple to solve but I have issues myself to get you and what you want to do, I’m confused.
Could you tell me why you need a modifier? what’s your point/use?
Well do I ever fell stupid. Upon looking further into it, I now know that I indeed don’t even need modifiers to do what I had set these buttons out to do, and I have now simplified the mapping to great extent, by simply mapping Fx units 3 on and Fx units 4 on commands to each buttons corresponding to the 4 decks, thank you for that!
However the issue is still present, and I cannot get the LEDs working. Despite having LED out commands to the buttons, and switching the button type in controller editor to every different type there is, the LED’s still do not turn on and off the way I want them to… If I change button type to toggle, it takes 2 presses to turn fx units on and off, if i choose trigger or gate, the LED turns on only when I press the button, and if i choose inc, the LED remains on at all times. This I getting very frustrating as I cant do event the most basic LED mapping commands when I want to map my whole controller! Again thanks for any help
Actually, I decided to simply try and map a midi out command to turn on the LED for the a play/pause buttons I have on my Maschine, to see if i could even do that, and I can’t! I dont know whats wrong, but it must be something in the software that is preventing me from properly mapping these LED’s, right?!
Okay, I finally found the culprit of all my problems, and It seems I had the midi output in Traktor Controller manager set to going out of my Traktor S4, and once i switched it to all ports, all of the LED’s began to work as I wanted them too. WOW. Sorry for being confusing, and posting this pointlessly, but hopefully for future mappers out there having a similar problem, this was what was causing me problems.
