What is the most current Genre?

What the F#$% is the most current genre? I am currently producing Minimal and some fidgety. Is this pretty current?

Thanks

I’m pretty sure Dubstep is exploding right now (or at least in BC).

If you haven’t heard of any check out Rusko’s minimix, that’s what got me into Dubstep.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sc1g1cApst0

Dubstep is going mental right now, you should check out my mate Barbarix… sik sik tunes!

i thought it was New Wave? Guess im lost in the 80s

ey

depends what you like! not whats in fashion. do not conform!!

i apologise for my ranting

dubstep and nu-disco are probably the hottest current genres of edm… electrohouse and fidget are starting to wear out their welcome, but I still enjoy them. The dirty synth bassline centric music is on it’s way out, you can hear a lot of electrohouse producers are scrapping the farting lfo synths and going for more acoustic sounds/smooth synths with progressive melodies.

I’m noticing that breaks and bigbeat are starting to make a comeback slowly but surely. You can hear it in many house and dubstep tunes lately, it will drop into a break and it’s always the hottest part of the track. My prediction is that 2010-2011 is gonna be a big year(s) for the resurgence of breakbeat’s popularity, I expect some new breaks sub-genres to come of it that will bump disco and dubstep off the throne.

But like others said don’t base your musical preferences on what’s trendy, play what you are naturally attracted to- it’s the only way to develop a unique style of your own.

I’d say that most current is a type of tribal-tech-house/house, which is in the majority of charts 2day (with 4/4 music ofc)

You shouldn’t have to ask what music to produce. You should already know what you want to produce. You’re supposed to develop a style through practice - not decide you want to DJ/produce the most current music.

Keep your eyes open - the band wagon will be along any minute.

depends on where you are living

If someone is new to producing and DJing they might ask where a good place to start would be. Like if someone is playing old stuff the crowd may not like it as much. Like I do not like Dubstep my self but maybe to entertain the crowd I should open up to it. I also noticed once I start listening to new genres i start to like them more than I did at first. I like to keep up with the times. This is why I am asking this question.

i feel like since most techno/minimal and progressive/house stuff sounds more and more equal to one another, those genres are really booming right now. i even feel like electro house got it’s way into techno raves, since they have become so mainstream now. at least thats what happening in germany right now, where techno is still really big. most techno partys call themselves “electro” anyways and so do house events.

i hope for breakbeat to become big in the next decade. this is what i originally played and what i want to produce. todays breakbeat is really complex electro house on a beat pattern that isn’t as stupid as 4 to the floor. most everyone i know thats really into electro likes it when i spin breaks. most people don’t even get the difference they just love wicked synths. and so do i.

amen! electrohouse these days really isn’t that different from where nuskoolbreaks was 3-4 years ago, aside from the difference in drum pattern.

Nu Disco - Funky - Skweee

Ok maybe not skweee

Oh yeah and I’m loving the dubstep/techno stuff.

Could you elaborate with some electro-ish breaks examples via youtube?

I absolutely agree.

The first time I heard glitch hop it reminded me of those like car commercials that try to be all urban about their ads.

Also, I really like Glitch Mob. Some fatty tunes. Some of their stuff gets reaaaal dubstep-ish too, which I can absolutely dig.
