What is “electro”?
Can anyone define me what is electro?
Back in the days (and for me) it used to be sweaty Vince Clarke, Andy Bell and Alison Moyet.
These days I see alot of kids going to electro parties and every damn time
in the inside of myself I’m hoping it’s some smooth synthpop,
but instead I hear some cheesy-cheesy ugly music.
I’m the only one who’s having this problem?
You’re referring to “Electro House”, which is the brash love child of Electroclash and House/Techno/Tech House.
Electro or “EDM” to give it its trendy name, is a sequence of bleeps, horns and hoover sounds which are usually put together in a completely random order so they make very little musical sense. Dance floor suspense and drama is often created by a generic build up sound followed by an even more generic sound of deeper, slower hoover sounds, again put together in a random order. At this point, the DJ will throw his hands in the air like he is a god.
Apparently, this ‘EDM’ stuff is all rather popular with the kids today.
Yeah, the term “electro” has been hijacked, several times actually.
Now when people say “electro” they usually mean “compelxtro” which is pretty much american mid range dubstep at 128 and 4 on the floor.

I’m not sure why they’re calling this new stuff Electro?
Well, this thread took exactly 4 posts to turn full circle, via ‘Electro equals EDM’ . Well done everybody!
I was more like trying to open a discussion about real electro and to find anyone who spins it, but nevermind.
Aha. You should probably have replaced most of the words in your original post with ones more similar to the ones in your last post then. Let the discussion of ‘real electro’ begin!
And a fifth post to point out that Electro is a sub genre of early 80’s hip hop influenced by the likes of Kraftwerk.

For me Electro is…annoying.
Electro shouldn’t be included in the same category as “complextro” that has all the wobbly wobbly, bleep and bloops all over the place.
I’d say electro is 4 on 4 with angrier synths and basses compared to regular house or progressive house, but now when I think about it, I’m probably referring to Indie / Nu-Disco which has a more “mature” sound comparing to electro, not to mention complextro (trying all I can to seperate the two genres)

EDM is simply an abbreviation for Electronic Dance Music. Multiple genres fall into this category.
EDM is a ‘trendy’ term made up by people who have highjacked our industry and flooded it with complete and utter shi*e!
There plenty of good ‘electro house’ out there, its just that pop cheese dance crud has really taken to the sound and made a nasty poppy formulaic version of it that seems to be dominating the charts (here in the UK anyway) that now all these pop rappers are jumping all over it aswell. Shame
The story of most genres for the last 30 years.
