I have a friend who’s a very accomplished DJ in the Detroit area and abroad. He mentioned he gets loads brand spanking new tracks constantly from some kind of “elite inner circle connection” When I asked him to explain, he just said “If I get another invite to the download club maybe I’ll think of you” . He wouldn’t tell me anymore. Can anyone tell me what this “Download club” is?
He’s a signed and promoted DJ. I’m pretty sure he gets tracks from a distro and his promo company. I get most my tracks from soundcloud and YouTube (unfortunately) . He’s connected to the whole Seth troxler crew as well. I know it’s a download pool. Just wondering if anyone knew how to access it
We could speculate as to why he won’t tell you all day, but it’s his secret.
Check soundcloud, i get a lot of music there, by spending hours sifting through new/unknown/up-an-coming producers music to find a few gems. A lot involve liking their Facebook page to get access, and if the producer puts out good music, you will get those tracks quickly. Support your favorites when they release paid-tracks, they have bills to pay too.
It’s likely a members-only file sharing community. If it’s members only, it’s probably not torrent based, and there are probably a few rules to adhere to (maintain a proper upload ratio, uploads need to be decent quality, etc).
combined with something like shazzam..join groups that focus on mixtapes, or music of your favorite type/s.
i burn peoples mixes to cd, and listen to them when i drive around shazzaming away. then go buy the song on itunes or beatport, juno , artist site, whatever..
Yes. I mostly download sets, shazzam, grab of youtube or soundcloud etc…
The friend I’m speaking of is a legit dude, and doesn’t BS me. He’s a signed and promoted DJ, whos connected to the likes of Paxahau, Culprit and Visionquest. I know when he says “Download club” he means Download club. I just want to know how to get access!! Any help from you dudes would be great.
It’s very likely that you have to be an accomplished DJ yourself and maybe even have some unknown gems yourself that you should provide every now and then (or self produced stuff). Most famous DJs do share their music somehow and there are certain networks, but without being close friends or well known yourself, you won’t have any chance. I bet your friend is either part of such a community (like certain Detroit DJs who share hidden gems) or is just paying for a record pool.
If you’re into finding decent, but lesser known music, you should listen to your favorite DJ’s Beatport charts or mixes. There are also sites who collect these charts of certain genres, like only famous techno DJ’s charts and so on (everything can be found via google).
I agree. I do pride myself on finding some pretty obscure gems, just throwing it out there in case any Dj’s wanted to spill some secrets hah. Didn’t think of the charts though. Thanks mate. I’ll def look into it.
