Help! Sennheiser HD25 vs Sennheiser HD280 vs Beats Mixr. Which one’s the best to buy?

My pair of Sony MDR 700 broke and I’m looking to buy a new pair of headphones. I’ve heard the beats are not as good as they look, but recently I saw a review here on djtt saying they were pretty good… I’ve heard many Djs use the hd25, but I’ve also heard the hd280 fit better and give a clearer sound.

So the big question is, which pair should I buy? What do you think of these? Or is there any other pair of headphones you’d recommend?

Thanks for the help

hd25. BOOM! now go make yourself a sandwich and call it a day.

^^^ This.

HD 25 mk2 have lasted me 2 years of rigorous use. I’ve sat on them, stood on them, fallen asleep with them on and they’re still going strong and sounding great.

Pretty much verybody is gonna tell you to get the hd25 here, and that has its reasons. I use them myself and am very happy. Their sound is good and clear, no frequencies are boosted, and their durability is just crazy. But go test out some others aswell. Go to a store and try on different ones, because in the end you are gonna have them on for hours and they should fit you perfectly. Hearing good stuff about something is always different from trying it out yourself.

hd 25 mkII! don´t even consider beats! i love the sound and the built quality of the hd25s. but somehow my ears start to hurt a bit after wearing them for a longer period. dunno why. but still i recommend everybody to get these!

I’ve gotta audition myself a pair of hd25s one day.
Just curious, wont it get uncomfortable after awhile? Being on ur ears instead of closed covering?

iFrogz ThrowBax.

Aiaiais No moving parts; cant break. Best headphones.

have you tried the velour earpads?

@AMG the beats are rougher on your ear than the hd25.
if u dont want to use on ear i recommend hdj2000.

i have all of the headphones above and i use hd25 mainly, but if im doing “studio” work or listening long time i allways use hdj 2000

Thanks everybody! I think I’ll go for the hd25, seems like everyone here loves them  and I think they’re on sale in bestbuy. Thanks fr the help.

yes i did. i had the chance to test them to their limit for long periods and i really really love them, but the “pain” always appears within the 2 hour mark  . but don´t worry i´m still happy with my technics rp-dj 1200

Hd25’s alllll day

I’ve always read that the HD25’s clamp pretty tight and get uncomfortable after a while. I use the HD280’s but looking to upgrade - they are pretty comfortable and good isolation however just very flat (the HD25’s will be similar)

i guess it depends how you monitor and whether you will be wearing them constantly for a long time or not.
out of those three the HD25’s are clearly the winner though. I wouldn’t even let the dre marketed tripe into the equation.

Yes theyre tight, but theres ways you can loosen and mould them, mine are still tight as hell after gigged constantly for the past year, but i like it that way

they are tight, but when i play i dont get bothered by that cuz i have them off probably 50% of each song, letting my ears rest:slight_smile:
agreed that you will feel pain if u wear them over 2h without taking them off a single time.

HD280 is 90 bucks well spent for me.

And you use them to dj? Or in the studio? Or both. I wanna have good headphones, obviously if these are that good, they’d save me lots of money → I like that

For me, the HD 25s only hurt if I leave my glasses arms too low (pressing between ear and head).
They’re extremely light so I use them for pretty much everything - they were originally designed as a studio monitor so they should do well there.

Judging from the reviews, the HD25 will likely last a while longer than the HD280 due to the better build quality/design.

Out of those options, HD-25s…hands down. Mine are about to turn 7 years old. They’ve been through a car wreck that ruined several other things that were in the bag with them. And they still sound great.

I don’t find the HD-280s comfortable, but they’re a little flatter in terms of frequency response. HD-25s boost a bit of the bass they can reach and then drop off sharply. That only really seems to come up when you’re DJing with them…but they’re still really easy to beat match with. The beat of a kick and the snap of a snare come out very well.

The only headphones I personally recommend are the HD-25s and MDR-7506s. And the senns are better for DJing IME.
