OT: Proposition 19
OT: Proposition 19
The act dictating what americans can and cannot put in their own bodies, is the most devastating piece of legislation ever passed… so far. Being born and raised in a state where marijuana has been the backbone of our economy for over 200 years, Kentucky, i find letting this proposition fail to pass grossly irresponsible for any american.
"Prohibition… goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man’s appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes… A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded. "
-Abraham Lincoln
Fantastic quote from one of my favorites. The insidious lifestyle legislators of the past 100ish years are undermining our principles…current admin included.
Id vote for a national legalization.
I know over time other states would follow if one were to get it legalized.
But Id vote no for california or any other state… The state who gets it legalized will only end up making money from pothead tourists who flock to the state to buy ganja. Then they will go over state lines and suddenly be subjected to their state laws. Plus having it legal will only make our country more stupid if the access to it is on every corner.
all 50 states at once or nothing
Yeah!
Stop mucking about and legalize it already…
The law is one of the oldest and dumbest.
I have to agree with you there. The owner’s of this country have everything stacked in their favor with complete disregard for the constitution. If only we truely listened to Carlin, instead of just laughing along, then maybe we wouldn’t be stuck in this fascist nation that one step away from instituting eugenics. Since the loss of habeas corpus in 2005, the contolled use clauses of 1937, and allowing women to vote in 1920(last one was a joke), they’ve been systematically turning us into submissive ingrates, that actually believe democracy means being told the difference between right and wrong. Then again i’m not in a place to judge anybody; i’m just a Marxist leaning towards the all too tempting promise of anarchy, while stuck in a capitalist society with nothing better to do with my time than dream of my island.
But alas, this is not the place for my rants. This is my refuge, a place where something as simple as a button that makes noise can mean salvation.
Coincidentally, Abe Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus…
Ha… very true. You sir are a worthy adversary.
What Str8upDrew said.
While I don’t wish to get drawn into a political theory discussion I would like to admit my disdain for Marxist and socialist thought. It is exactly what a subservient population leans towards. Sacrificing individual freedom for security. And while there are many flaws within capitalism at no other time in human history has technology advanced as much and with as much unfettered progress.
While I’ll agree with you on the principal of what you’re saying, I think you need be be careful when calling the US a fascist nation. I’ve traveled all over the world, visited many countries and even been arrested in a few of them. Even when things are bad here, they are not yet fascist.
That’s not to say that I don’t agree with you, I do. My body is my own and I should be able to treat it in a manner that I see fit. I think you also have to consider at what point the way you treat your body begins to interfere with other peoples rights. I don’t think any of us would legalize driving while intoxicated would we? It’s completely your right to drink until you are so intoxicated that you lose motor control, but it’s not within your rights to endanger another with those actions.
It’s a very fine line to walk and one that’s even tougher to legislate because legislation, more appropriately legalization, requires metrics so that the law can be enforced.
It’s just a very difficult issue with no easy answers.
^^
what he said.
I think you have misunderstood the key principal of Marxism, which is a true democracy. Simply put, majority rules. I would rather live in a society where i earn the rest as everyone else, and my voice actually matters. Than a society where i have more than most, and no say in the actions of the nation.
I think i would have said that at one time, but I don’t believe that pure democracy can ever work, corruption is always to tempting and too easy.
Well here in the states, i have been arrested/fined for:
Cursing on a public beach. (1st Amnd)
Smoking a cigarette outdoors, on a public sidewalk.
Refusing to allow the search of my car, without a warrant. (4th Amnd)
Organizing and participating in 2 different protest. (back to the 1st)
Now ok, it hasn’t gone completely fascist yet. However, when i’m accosted for exercising my civil rights, i would say that’s pretty damn close.
As for drinking and driving and acts such as that, well “…certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty…”
I would say drunk driving limits others right to life. So yes, it should be punished.
My main point is that our government isn’t here to tell us what we cannot do, but to protect the things we can.
Before they legalize ganja, they need to lower the drinking age to 16. Works in Europe just fine.
I was arrested in China for carrying a bible…I’m not joking. I spent 3 days in jail because of it…more wrong place, wrong time, wrong skin color than anything else, but you see where I’m going.
Maybe drunk driving is another “Pursuit of happiness”…
Legislating morality is tricky. I think the government is protecting the things you can do by limiting them. Sounds strange, I know…
Really I’m just playing devils advocate to spur discussion. I’m not sure how I feel, these are just the things that run around my head.
its simple…
Its a dumb law…put in place for a dumb reason…by dumb people…
To stop the African Slaves smoking it…
Cotton Farmers…anyone?
The problem is not with the law itself, but with the possible legal issues it brings up. It may set new precedents that could influence things up the road. That’s the way I see it at least. I’m sure there are people who are just afraid of it (if they would just spark up they wouldn’t be), but I’m more concerned with the legal precedent.
Well…then they should have imposed that law when vehicles arrived and people were causing accidents due to being stoned.
Then, we would not really have anything to grumble about.
However, it was not!
Why is alcohol still legal?
Tobacco?
Why are guns available from Banks?
I think those should be addressed first…to be honest.
